Even though spring is still a few weeks away, now is the time to start thinking about getting your home tidied up after the winter months. We’ve put together a list of 5 ways to ensure your home is spring-ready:

1. Outdoor TLC
The outside of the home has taken more of a beating from the harsh winter weather than your interior so get started outside. Inspect the exterior surfaces of your home and if necessary touch up any paint and caulking that may be looking weathered. Look at your roof and replace any damaged or missing shingles and clean any debris that may be lingering in your gutters from autumn clean up. If you have trees on your property, remove any dead branches that could break off on a windy day. Trim any tree or hedge branches that might be touching your home to prevent exterior damage and also keep pesky critters from getting into your house.

2. Inspect the concrete
Concrete slabs are likely to sustain some damage during the winter months so take a look for signs of cracks or any movement. If there are significant cracks visible, fill them with a silicone caulk and once the weather is warmer, power-wash the slabs and seal the concrete.

3. Start thinking about landscaping
While it’s too early to water the lawn and plant flowers, you can start to prep. Make sure your garden hoses are in working order, the outdoor pathways are cleared off and all debris is raked away. Check the lawn mower and hedge trimmer – clean up the equipment and sharpen the blades to make yard work this year easy-peasy. Now’s also the time to start thinking about landscaping ideas for when the toasty weather sets in and to get your lawn care schedule planned out.

4. AC check-up
With the warm months approaching, you’ll want to make sure your air conditioner is in working order. If you leave a check-up until the first hot day of the year and discover a problem, you’ll be stuck without air conditioning in the sweltering heat. Another benefit of getting a check done early is it will be much easier to get a HVAC technician over as it’s unlikely they have many appointments scheduled this time of year.

5. Spring clean the interior
There’s nothing like some good old fashioned indoor spring cleaning to welcome the warm months! Clean your windows from the inside and outside, steam clean the carpets, wash the drapes, clean out your fireplaces, check the batteries in your smoke alarms and eliminate clutter wherever you can.
The sooner you get to working on sprucing your home up for spring, the sooner you sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful weather. So what are you waiting for?
